Detailed Costs Report

5 min read

The Cloud8 Platform offers powerful and flexible cost control features, so that the user has full knowledge of the expenses with their cloud infrastructure, in addition to being able to detect anomalies and be alerted in the most diverse scenarios.

Below we have separated a detailed description of the use of our Cost Report , with the most frequent configurations and usage situations.

Cost Analytics in 3 simple steps #

  1. Click on the Cost Analytics tab at the top of the screen
  2. In the top context menu, select the account, period and currency
  3. View reports in the center of the screen

Menu contextual #

In the first field, you select one of the registered cloud accounts. In the second field, you can select one or more periods with data available for reporting. You can compare periods by selecting multiple periods. Next, you select the currency in which you want the report to be displayed.

Reports Dashboard #

Below you can see a dashboard assembled with the cost report in Reais, for AWS in the month of June 2024, followed by an explanation of the components on the screen.

  1. When selecting only one period, the total cost for that period will be displayed. If you select more than one period, the total monthly cost for the most recent period selected will be displayed, as well as a comparison with the previous period. In both cases, if the current incomplete month is selected, an estimated cost for the full month will also be displayed.
  2. This section of the screen displays a calculation of the average daily cost for the selected periods. If you select more than one period, the average daily value is displayed for each of them individually.
  3. Daily Cost vs Daily Cumulative Cost chart, displayed for the most recent period selected.
  4. Average Daily Cost chart, displayed by month, for the last 18 months.
  5. Monthly Total Cost Graph, displaying the values of the selected periods with details of the 10 most consumed resources in those periods.
  6. Menu with graph display options.

Expanded chart (details) #

By clicking on the first icon in the Chart Options Menu (item 6 above), you can view it expanded and in detail, with the datasets labeled and displayed. The data is also displayed below, in table format.

Report of the last 6 months #

Let’s say you need to know in detail the costs of the last 6 months , of a cloud account registered in Cloud8. In the Costs Analytics context menu , select the desired account, then mark the last 6 months in the Period field and indicate the desired currency for viewing.

Comments: #

  • As the current month is not yet closed, a real total value is displayed up to the last update (information available in the bottom right corner of the screen) and also an estimate for the closed month, based on consumption.
  • The average daily cost is displayed by month in the second section.
  • You can see the consumption pattern by component in the graph on the right, among the top 10.

Top 10 chart breakdown #

The graph above shows the detailed figures for the 10 most consumed resources, as well as their monthly graphic representation, grouped by resource. This makes it easy to identify anomalies in service consumption, as well as better monitor where the amounts spent on infrastructure are going. For better reading, you can isolate the months by simply moving your mouse over the colors or the legend.

Detail by resource #

Note that some listed resources have a link . When you click on this link, on the resource name, the graph will change to the resource details. For example, below is an example created from clicking on RDS: All , in the graph above.

  • The operation is the same, apart from the datasets , the only difference is the detailing at one more level of depth.
  • By clicking on the “+” in the services you will arrive at the component IDs.
  • To return to the previous chart, simply click the “Back to Total” button at the top right of the current chart.

Periodic email reporting (basic) #

It is possible to send a periodic cost report by email, which can be configured quickly and easily.

  • Within the Cloud8 Panel, look for the Notifications option in the side menu and click on Costs within it;
  • On the screen that opens, you must select the desired provider, choose the frequency of notifications (4 types of reports are possible for 4 different groups of emails);
  • By clicking the Preview button, you can see what the notifications will look like;
  • All right? Then just click Save and you’re done.

Detailed periodic report in CSV by email (advanced) #

There is a very useful feature for detailed control of product costs, which is sending CSV by email. This CSV can be used both to import into a management spreadsheet and to integrate with other systems. How do I do this?

  1. Click on the Workflow -> Reports option in the main menu on the left of your Dashboard.
  2. In the list of components, select the account you want to create a new Workflow. You can select more than one, as in the example where we selected all of them.
  3. Select, in Type, the option Report: CSV of costs by product, then click on the arrow indicated in the image above to add to the execution list.
  4. Then click on the Repetitions tab:
  1. Select the recurring schedule in the first field and then select the period. In our example, we selected Monthly / On the last day of the month.
  2. Select an end date or select the option not to expire. You can now save.
