FinOps: Reports, Alerts and Budgets

3 min read

Through Cloud8, in the application it is possible to see the costs divided by Tags / Label / Resource Group .

Budgets by Provider / Products / Tags – FinOps Apps  #

Click on “FinOps Reports” and then select “Budgets”  in the application.

You can quickly set a budget for a product or business tag.

FinOps Budgets

Flexible configurations:  #

  • Defining the budget for each Tag /value;
  • Multiple item selection;
  • Budget method : fixed costs (daily or monthly), estimated, percentage variation in relation to the previous month;
  • Notifications – email / slack / SNS;
  • Notification frequency: every day, only when exceeded, only once;
  • Values per month to facilitate visualization and estimates;
  • Report showing whether budget is in line or not (green / red);
  • Preview – as you change budgets , you can see in real time what the alerts will look like;
  • Comparative graphs of budgeted value vs. actual value;
  • Graph with deviation values – positive or negative – OK or burst;
  • Exporting graphics;
  • Retroactive registration of fixed budget values for historical purposes and budget migration into Cloud8;
  • Works with any Cloud provider and Business Units.

Example of use cases we serve:   #

FinOps Menu
  • Notify A/B/C emails whenever the budget for the Tag “ centrocustos: A1B2C3 ” exceeds 10% of the previous month in Reais;
  • Notify slack #budget only when the budget exceeds the fixed estimated value of R$10,000.00;

Budgets for any item detailed within MultiCloud  #

Click on “ FinOps Analytics ” and select the reports icon in the top right menu.

Select the nodes in the hierarchical file on the right and if you want to create a budget for a tag with Name/Value like “ team ”:” technology ”, click “Save budget ” in this menu.

FinOps Create Alarm

Highlights:  #

  • Select multiple nodes and choose to receive a grouped or individual  report/alert/ budget ;
  • Set cost alerts – if you exceed a certain amount;
  • Set estimated alerts – if you continue at this consumption rate, this value will be exceeded at the end of the month;
  • Set up to 3 values to track;
  • Define an integration to notify in addition to email (e.g. SMS, Slack, Bots, etc.);
  • If you have Slack set up in Best Practices , it appears as an integration and is ready to use;
  • Preview button allows you to view the alert/report without having to wait for it to be triggered.

Pivot Table / Dynamic Tables  #

A very interesting and powerful feature implemented in the platform is the creation of reports using dynamic tables.

In “ FinOps – Reports ” -> “ Pivot Table ”, you can assemble a Rows x Columns view with the technical and business dimensions ( Tags ) you choose: Provider, Technical Category, Region, Period, Tags , etc.

By clicking on the fields, you define filters. Finally, you can export exactly what you see to a spreadsheet and other formats such as CSV and HTML.
